My stepdad maybe, but I don't recall. I think we were always more of Stock/ Super Stock classes.
Several different cars over the years, Ford Fiarlanes, GTO's, Firebirds, all kinds of stuff. She might have pics, I don't though.
Bill Jenkins was one of the originals of drag racing when it went from the streets to being part of NASCAR. Richard Petty started as a drag racer, but changed to stock car (circle track) racing after his out-of-control car killed several people at a race. It was later that NHRA and IHRA were formed. I was a kid during Grumpy's heyday in the '60's. Pro Stock class back then later became Stock and SuperStock as technology progressed. I started racing in the '80's but NRHA did not start keeping computer records until about 1990, so alot of information has been lost to time, but I am sure there is plenty of footage of Grumpy and others. I just googled myself "Carol Yacavone NRHA" images and found pictures of our Stock Eliminator Firebird that was a 4-record holder and the project car for High Performance Pontiac racing magazine.
My ex-husband and I raced with him in Stock Eliminator (NHRA class). He really was a pioneer of drag racing, and was very respected even as he got older and was not able to do as much. (Racing is very strenuous, not for old folks! LOL). RIP.
