Riparium setup with Synodontis petricola

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How many of these guys cld live with a peacock eel and 4 fancy guppies in a 30 gallon?

You could maybe put five or so of them in there. They eventually grow to 3 1/2".

Today I got some plants and fish in there. Here is shot looking down through the top of the tank.

It's not much to look at now, but once the plants get a chance to grow in it should be pretty nice. I might do some more rearranging to.

I'm surprised the guppies are still alive!

Nice riparium, it makes me want to make one like this!

Thanks very much I only just put the plants in there. It will look more like something when they have had some time to grow in.

Yeah I would be wary of putting juvenile Synodonits in there with that eel it might make a snack of them.

Here's a new update for the 50-gallon. It still needs to grow in--this will take a while--but this gives an impression of the general idea.

I have introduced more fish too. I got some shots of fish and I will be back later with those too.

Even with the fish, the underwater area seems to have too much empty vertical space. I am also considering adding a few underwater plants to build more dimension there.

Here is that cichlid that you can see there in the foreground of the tank, an Archocentrus cutteri.

I don't know what this fish is really called. I think I heard that the genus Archocentrus was revised, and cutteri might not be valid either. Anyway, he's a real pretty fish. He is like a sinlge centerpiece in this setup. His colors are rather washed out because the light is so bright. I hope that when the plants grow up and throw some more shade his colors will brighten.

Looks great! Perhaps you could incorporate some emersed driftwood to help fill some of the underwater space (as in your 120)?

That's a real good idea and I do have a few pieces of manzanita that could work well for that. I also have a few good plants in mind, although I want to add just a few plants so as not to obscure the view of those rounded river rocks.

Here is a quick update from this tank.

Everything is growing pretty well. You can still see the trellis rafts there along the front edges of the other carpeting plants (Bacopa Limnophila aromatica Lipia nodiflora), but they will become covered as those plants grow in some more.
