Ripped off for pleco?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Kinda late now my lfs gives them away (large ones) when you buy other big fish. People are constantly bringing commons in because they got too big or they didn't do their homework on the fish.

you paid too much, but I don't see where you have any cause to ask for money back ... it's not like he did a bait-and-switch or sold you anything other than what you knew you were getting ...

next time, just don't buy on impulse ...

i payed 20 in canada for a 9inch

Not a horrible price, but ya you probably could have gotten it for less if you had asked, just because most LFS can't get rid of those fast enough.

you didnt get ripped off. Here in VA a common over 8 inches is $20. Think about it this way, if he got it wholesale he probably paid $12 then factor in food, dechlor, energy to heat the tank, paying employees....he broke even. Buying this fish is helping keeping his doors open for another month and letting you have a LFS available for you to enjoy.

there is a LFS here that has a common pleco that they say was in a pond for only one summer. he is about 14 inches long and they want 45 bucks for him. someone just brought it in and dropped him off.

i would say it was a little steap on the price but ive noticed alot of stores raise prices randomly just trying to keep their doors open. in the past 6 months a store here had koi angels for 3.75 then 6 then 8 and now they are 10 bucks a piece. they get them from a local breeder and sell about 25 to 35 a week. but they still dont make enough to be sure a closed sign isnt in their future. its a rough time in most of the small business world. so people are asking more than they should.. but i would be happy it wasnt a bait and switch like others have mentioned. it would have been much worse if he would have tried to sell you a rare pleco and snubbed you with a common. and you could have been out alot more cash.
