Rita is coming to Houston

I am awaiting a call back from two local rental places regarding a generator. I also have UPS's that I can use for short term outages here. My house isn't going to blow away and I'm not going to flood this far inland, so power is the only concern.

My fellow Texans: Just let me know if you need boarding for your fish for a couple of days. I'm sure I can work it out.

Odds are good that I won't lose power at all, and if I do it won't be for long. The UPS's I have are industrial, and made to keep a server bank up for 60 minutes, so they should be fine for short outages. As for buying one -- GOOD LUCK! I think every store sold out of them after the news last night. Not that I haven't been checking. I might even try to brave the absolute havoc that will be Wal-Mart this evening.

I would leave if I was you! But if you stay and do get a generator. If you do what Copeina says make sure you turn off your main breaker in you panel before doing so. Back feeding power company not an good ideal. Good luck and god be with you and your family.

buy gas now, 25% of the US refineries are going to get shutdown if hit hard enough by RIta. you saw the gas prices go up after katrina and only 5% of the US supply was shut down. -so i was told by an economist.

GUYS NO GENERATORS, NO GAS, TOTAL CHAOS IN FREEWAYS. NOT SURE IF YOU'VE SEEN NEWS, BUT PEOPLE STUCK IN TRANSIT, CARS OVERHEATING, RUNNING OUT OF GAS, WITH NOW WATER, AND 98 DEGREE HEAT. IMPOSSIBLE TO GET OUT. OVER 5 MILLION PEOPLE IN SURROUNDING AREAS. SOME PEOPLE I KNOW, INCLUDING FAMILY ARE STUCK IN THIS MESS, TRAVELING 1MPH IN SOME CASES.
