I'm sitting here watching River Monsters the episode is "the mutilator" and he's chasing a fish in papua new guinea that is biting peoples testicles. RBPs have been introduced to the river and at first he dismissed the fish as a vegetarian. He changed his mind however when he kept catching Pacu with pork. Talking to the natives they say that the Pacu eat anything and everything, snakes, ducks, little fish, along with the normal veggy diet.

Just thought it was interesting with so many people keeping the fish in their aquariums. has anyone had any trouble with these fish biting?

No bites here....but if the fish was big enough to fit in his mouth he ate it...and when i would feed beefheart to my cichlids, he would eat most of it...then take all the pellets too.....Like they said on the episode (i watched it earlier) they eat anything and everything from weeds and grass...too...genitals as they put it

watching the episode tonight w/ the hubby after he got ove rthe shock of the fish going after genitals.. had his highschool moment of the day when Jeremy talked about Pacu's eating "nuts" as their normal diet.. and how their jaws where "nutcrackers". Jeremy.. you kinda gave that one to everyone.. lol.

On a seriouse note.. I've witnessed Pacu on more then one occasion readily accept meaty foods. they seem to be more omnivorouse scavengers then "herbivoures". Opportunists in every sense of the word it seems.

Typically, on most occasions, I don't dip my junk into my aquariums, or others aquariums. I think i'm safe.

ha ha, so true... i wonder if any does? funny!

Pacu are mostly vegetarian by nature, but will eat anything given the opportunity/circumstances. Mine readily ate fruits and veggies, but would also take shrimp and pellets without hesitation.

Also...Nuts are a part of the Pacus natural diet.

It seems, then, that we should hide from our fish those pieces of us which look like food.

I know someone who found their silver arowana in their pacus mouth.
