Robert Paulson the Salminus brasiliensis (Argentinian Golden Dorado) growout thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't wait to see this guy super sized and in the big tank. He looks great! He seems to be a very powerful fish. I can't wait to see all three of your dorados grown out and doing well in the big tank. :)

Those motoro pups look great!

Also, where the heck are you getting Tor? I've been looking for a while with no luck. Putitora is one of my favorite fish. :D

Thanks Rob!!! I hope they all get along in the big tank but I'm not going to hold my breath. As long as Robert and the wolf get along I'll be happy.

The Tor.... lol. I actually traded off my group of Tor towards getting my Henleo girl back. I was low on room at the time so the Tor left. A buddy has been caring for them since. 4th of July weekend they're coming home. The group has been together for years. All also came from Wes. Not sure on species, hoping you can help me out with that, but there's 3 blues (maybe not true Tor) 3 reds, and a gold. Sounds like they're all over the place size wise so I should be able to use some in with Robert and the smaller ones can go with the Tatf.

The Marbles are all captive bred. Smallest Marble is one bred here, the second smallest is from Mr. Huveneers across seas, and the bigger was bred out in Chicago by MFSwets.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

When did you get a tatf? How did I miss that? LOL

I didn't get "A" tatf.

I thought I mentioned it to you in an email. They've been here almost as long as Robert.....

It wasn't a wise decision. :swear: What I didn't know didn't hurt me. Now I'm poisoned. It's not good. I held off for years and I should have never caved. The girlfriend made it possible so she's also to blame. To blame for my 750 now being looked at as a grow out.

I do recall that now lol.

Those little guys look great. How big are they now?

I desperately miss my old TATF. :(

I'd guess 4-4.5"

Now I just need to figure out how to get them some VATF friends.

They killed the lil Balas I put in there. Now they seem to get pushed around by a lil bigger one, but it has so much trouble with the current the ATF just swim off. The tetras and dollars don't even travel 3/4 of the tank due to the current. Pretty windy in there considering GPH vs volume.

The ATF's do look great, snatching up food as its blown around ... I like it very much! And dude that Dorado is something else, he eats like an absolute slob! Mine grabs one pellet, then takes a break, 1 pellet then a break .... yours woofed 10 before mine would finish 1! So awesome, I'd expect rediculous growth from him to continue!

Robert AND friends.....

He seems so happy to have some swimming buddies..... Loves leading the pack at night.

Chicx looking for some of your ID insight!!!!

I'm told there's 3 "red" Tor, 3 "blue" somethings that aren't Tor but similar.... AND there's the oddball. Single fish with the darkish "V" on the tail, I believe this was supposed to be a "gold" Tor.

Would love to hear thoughts on IDs from anyone that knows these fancy dithers...... :grinno:

The one with "V" on its tail (black on upper and lower edge of tail) is Neo Hex.

Great vid, Al!

I really like the skinny ones with the pointy heads. They look strikingly like young putitora to me. I can't really speak for the other ones though, as I'm not as familiar with mahseer as I'd like to be. I normally solicit advice from Wes or Ken for anything Tor.

Old Mr. Paulson looks to really enjoy having tankmates. Hopefully S. brasiliensis proves to be much more sociable than do the S. franciscanus! I would LOVE to have a dorado with my GATF!

Thank you Ken!

Can you confirm the others???

How big should I expect these guys to get?
