Yes i was kidding about the starveing, because he looks so fat and healthy. That last pic looks a lot like the Shadow Bass, but NJ is not in their normal range. Never saw such a nice pic of those. He is really nice. In your first pic at top, in the background is a smaller fish, about mid tank in the back, what is that??

Rock bass will take on a mottled appearance when stressed or startled. Juveniles also have the same pattern.

i started with 55 then after 5 months took that water and put it in a 90 / so was it cycled u tell me/ when i did the test the 90 had been running for 4 months

Moving water between tanks does nothing to cycle it. Beneficial bacteria lives mostly in the filter media, also in gravel and decor. If you're getting a reading for nitrIte the tank is not cycled.

If you have a tank already cycled and long established, and wanted to fill a small tank say for new fish quarantine, would it be a bad idea to use the already cycled water to fill the newer smaller tank. Then put some filter media from the old tank in your filter. Im thinkin instant cycled tank, especially where there will be no substrate since this is to be a quarantine tank only. Then just top off the older tank?? Im a little thick can you break it down for me

The filter media alone will do it. Just add some dechlorinated water and you're in business; the old tank water adds nothing to the setup.
