I have a new tank at home, not sure about how stabilized it is at the bottom (must admit I got very excited when putting the tank on its frame without looking if the bottom of the actual tank has any support). Think its flat at the bottom and on a flat surface.

I was just reading about stones and weight distribution... is it a problem if I put loads of stoned just straight into the tank or do I need some type of foam or something to put at the bottom.

Would have bee nice if I didn't get so excited and checked the parameters of the tanks...thats a lesson learned!

I think you got a little excited writing this thread :S :D

So let me get this right you have a tank on a frame which both are flat and tank is unfilled if so then yes put foam board underneath becasue of pressure of tank can break glass make even distribution of pressure just a safety thing.

People might say i am wrong i don't think they will :D hope not becasue i am sure foam helps what i do and my uncles ECT.

I have never really got into a foam discussion on this fourm.

Hope i understand that right you got new tank lifted it up without knowing about foam stuff just wondering about pressure if foam helps.

Sorta got it right, and I do apologise for being a bit vague.

I have a tank 150x50x60, and I have already filled it up with water just over half way (to get the bacteria from my old one going).

The tank is on a flat surface table (which it came with) and at the moment nothing in between the tank and the table.

Reason I didn't think of this sooner was simply that with my old one I just put it directly onto the table with nothing in between.

Ohh hmm not to sure now i think that a tank of that size or any BIG tank for that matter is always a good idea to have foam heck i might be wrong someone might say blah blah blah and be right.

Just my 2 cents but i always feel better having foam under tanks becasue of pressure reasons even it out .

Hmmm... I had a feeling you were going to say that!

Just when I went to pick it up from the old owners (second hand tank) they didn't have anything there so I didn't really think much about it.

That and I was just so excited that I didn't think much of anything to be honest. All common sense did go out the window a bit.

I was curious about this to. I was also thinking about using foam. I was thinking about using that pink stuff they put on the outside of houses.

I jsut use normal foam stuff white one xD also its just a precaution because of the amount of pressure needs to be evened out heck might get away but probly can't add allot of heavy deco in tank in the end up to you :D.

I have read a few articles about if you want to put loads of rocks into a tank that you should put some foam under your sand or whatever you got in there basically to support the weight of the rocks.

My particular issue is for both my rocks and my tank! Set it all up, and didn't put any support between the tank and the table surface and I cannot for the life of me remember if there was a gap... so I've emailed the people I bought the tank from to ask if he did put any foam under there.

If he did and I need to drain it all thats going to keep me busy and piss off my boyfriend!

Yeah, I am sure your probably right... will just keep rocks to the minimum for now till I change the sand in a couple of weeks and then put a support base. upside is when I remove the sand I'll see the bottom of the tank ;-)

Well i was just thinking can't you move sand or whatever and see through glass ? :D

Heh lucky i did'nt call you dude

Also how far is the tank in cycle because i was going to say if you don't feel 101% happy and feel safe about it might be best idea and just keep water in buckets then refill might need a few buckets but heck up to you if you want to take the precaution considering what could happen if it broke .
