twentyleagues twentyleagues has some

Large, flexible bichir. Smaller mouth so not as dangerous of a predator, but will take what can fit in its mouth.

Social animals. Care same as polys....pretty much. Actually very effective predator. Supposedly can reach up to 24" in the wild, live 20+ years. Not a jumper like polys but can and will climb out or into filtration.
I’ve only ever owned a poly once it was a 2 inch dinosaur bichir and it managed to get itself behind my filter media and died

Hi, I’m not responding to this post, but I have a rope fish and I’m wondering if there’s anyone on here who can help me. He’s relatively young, he wasn’t full grown when I got him, about a year ago. He’s suddenly stopped swimming, he appears to only have control of the first three inches of his body, he cannot use his tail at all. He has been sitting in the same spot for at least a day, I’m not sure how he has not suffocated. He won’t eat the food I put in front of him. I’m suspecting a broken back but there’s nothing in the tank that could have fallen on him and caused this amount of damage, and there is no visible damage to his body. He is curled into an S shape for the first three inches and the rest is laid out flat. No other fish appear to be sick or injured and there’s no aggressive fish in the tank. Is this something I could help him with? Or should I accept that he will probably die?

Sounds like it’s a broken spine. Since not eating or swimming then I’d suggest euthanasia with clove oil.

You’re going straight to clove oil?
Yes. Had rope fish in the past with similar problems. Eventually died. Can’t surgically replace a spine. No meds to fix it. If it can’t or swim. Then it’ll slowly die hence I suggested the clove oil. Don’t have to follow my suggestion. Can always do something else but not sure what that something else is.
