I have had several bichirs for a year and they're fine. I've been feeding them generic carnivore pellets
I've had my ropefish for over a year, so i really dont know why yours would be dieing so fast :s Mine is super playful and really active. he is not picky at all but ive noticed he prefers live black worms or a cube of frozen bloodworms. The only thing though is that you have to be sure he actually gets the food. they dont see very well and hunt by smell, so most other fish get to the food first and he gets left out
I fix this problem by feeding the rest of the fish then running a tube down to the bottom of the tank and dropping his food in it so that it bypasses the rest of the fish. It normally doesn't take too long for him to get to it that way ;p I'm not sure if he would take pellets at all :shurshh;4914749; said:Just the one :s I really really want 1 or 2 more but they are hard to find around here...
I have heard that they don't do so well on their own, and like to be in groups. That's why I got a few.
Also, have you tried feeding some bloodworm or something other than pellets? I feed after the lights go out, so they have time to get to the food in the dark.
Edit: I see in your signature that you have clown loaches in your tank. These could possibly be too boisterous for the Ropes, particularly at feeding time.

Its really fun to watch him tear into the bloodworms. It reminds me of a cobra striking
