Ok just gona jump right in here
What people are telling you about the Flowerhorn is true to their characteristics. I keep and breed many different strains of Horns and this is true. A 55 gallon is a good size take for the fish to be housed in for most of it's life. Although attempting to get the FH to give up or share some of his limited tank space (territory) will not be easy. If it does work at a young age the same combo could and most likey fail as the fish matures! But please do not get me wrong I am not saying Flowerhorn can not be housed with other fish. I have a 15 incher in a very large aggressive community tank (large being the key factor though). My addvice to you if you want a long term tankmate. Maybe you should try something that is not so territory oriented like cichlids are. Maybe a cat, or botia?
I have not seen a pic of your fish, but I will say that just keeping a single FH if it is a eye pleaser. Can be quite a rewarding experiance and you may find that you are satisfied or maybe not? Good luck
