Rose Queen Cichlid Tankmates

Ok just gona jump right in here:D
What people are telling you about the Flowerhorn is true to their characteristics. I keep and breed many different strains of Horns and this is true. A 55 gallon is a good size take for the fish to be housed in for most of it's life. Although attempting to get the FH to give up or share some of his limited tank space (territory) will not be easy. If it does work at a young age the same combo could and most likey fail as the fish matures! But please do not get me wrong I am not saying Flowerhorn can not be housed with other fish. I have a 15 incher in a very large aggressive community tank (large being the key factor though). My addvice to you if you want a long term tankmate. Maybe you should try something that is not so territory oriented like cichlids are. Maybe a cat, or botia?
I have not seen a pic of your fish, but I will say that just keeping a single FH if it is a eye pleaser. Can be quite a rewarding experiance and you may find that you are satisfied or maybe not? Good luck:thumbsup:

I’ve had a full grown 12” JD in with a growing RQ (put her in at about 4-5”) and she’s about 7” now. They’ve been together for almost a year and we haven’t had any issues. They were introduced in a tall 60 gallon and were put in a 75 gallon about 4 months ago. I believe we’ve been witnessing mating behavior lately. JD got a little messed up the other day, healed fine but after seeing some dancing and lip locking it’s looking like mating...or an attempt on ones part. They get along pretty well for the most part...not much fighting at all. Jack was an abused fish and we rescued him from a bucket about 3 years ago, he’s just happy to have a good home. The Rose Queen is quite a hag though...but what can you expect? It’s all trial and error.

Rose Queens can be a hot mess as they grow...all fish with devil/midas ancestry are often mild when young. Then they get a certain size and that 'wire' goes off in their head. Some stay on the mild side but most will show some increase in aggression as they grow. I'd get the biggest dang tank I could afford. I've got two big parrots that can't go with anything. One has more midas ancestry, the other more devil.

Good luck and monitor your fish!
