Interesting, first I've heard of Hikari wafers being no good, I was more concerned about the NLS as it isn't a specific herbivore food. Can you elaborate on your experience? Do you know of anyone else who has had problems with them?


I'll gladly join in if someone starts a "Panaque Show-Off" thread, always keen to see pics of them!

I used to feed mine hikari only. Until one day I noticed they were bloated and sluggish.
The first thing I thought was maybe a bacterial infection but it didn't make sense to me.
So I stopped feeding the wafers and with in a day or two they were normal.
I fed them the hikari again and the same thing. Since then I've stopped using it. It's been a few years or more now.

A few months back on arofanatics a member had the same issue bloated panaque I suggested stop using hikari and the issue was done with.
It's happened to a bunch of other people as well on other forums.

I personally won't use it ever again to feed them.
The NLS has been great. They're more active and actually demolish the pellets. I always found a lot of the hikari would go to waste as they never ate all of what it I threw in.

Interesting, unfortunately I've just ordered another KG of it!! I guess I'll keep an eye on it and see how they go, maybe as part of a mixed diet it's ok. Will watch out for bloating though.

I agree 100% about the wafers. Had the same issues with my 190's, 191 and my L090 as well. I would never feed my panaques another hikari wafer. Nothing against them as a whole. Just doesn't sit well in their stomachs I guess
