I got a RTC and he was eating every thing for the first month and growed a little. Now he will not eat at all. All he eats is rocks then throws them up in the night so then i try and feed him and he wont eat then i go to try again later and he is full of rocks this had been 4 days. will he be ok, what do i do. I took him out of the tank for now so he wont eat any more rocks, he threw up 12 rocks when i was out today.

hey...don't worry much right now...but what have you tried feeding him? Also you don't want to feed him alot one day and expect him to eat a whole lot again the next day...so you have to let his disgestive track catch up and then move onto feeding again later in the week. But from what your telling us that your RTC has not been eating for 4 days now...you may wait for another day to past by as he'll be okay for now and you know those FAT CATFISHES LOVES TO EAT.....they'll turn out to get really hungry and just eat whatever you throw into the tank again like before....thats what I do when my RTC and HYBRID doesn't eat....I just let get hungry for maybe a day or two and then feed them when they show a sign of being hungry for food

Interesting, When it comes to Young RTC's they like to EAT!!! ALOT... ALL THE TIME.... if they don't want to eat... something is out of whack...

A few questions before hand though

1) What have you changed in the tank that it was in? (Major water changes, new tankmates, addition of a piece of decor into the tank, medicating for something...etc)
2) What do you feed to your RTC?
3) What is the activity level of your RTC now VS before not eating?
4) What are your water parameters like? (including temperature... ensure that there are no major changes in temp as it can cause your RTC to lose it's appitite)
5) What size tanks are you keeping it in?

Hey basslover....im wondering if that turtle he has with the RTC is having something to do with it not eating....what do you think?

Well I'd have to say from what was stated above that it isn't ... but maybe I mis-understood.

I think that the RTC was being kept in the tank pictured in the top and then after eating the stones was moved to the turtle tank.

it is good to mention however that Turtles can carry some weird parasites that will cause your fish harm and could cause things like this as well... however I'm thinking that one doesn't have to do with the other in THIS case

The first pic is when i got him, when i first got him he was eating every thing, blood worms, guppie fish, dryed shrimp and what ever fell to the bottom from my five Os. The second pic is when i was cleaning out the tank, i put the five Os and my RTC and my Ral Cat in a tank with water out of there other tank then, clean the gravel in the big thank, fill it up then put some fresh water in let it come up to 78degrees then put the fish back in then put the old water back in, the last pic is after he throw up all the rocks in the bucket i put him in so he wouldint eat any other rocks. The RES she dosnt bother any of my fish all she dose is sunbath at the top and sleeps in the plant at night
as soon as winter passes she is going back outside. I have a 75 gal tank and all my fish are babys 3 to 4 inches im geting ready to purchas a 220 gal and biuld a stand im just pulling all the loose ends together . As i said my water temp is 78 and i dont have any decor thats fake i have real rocks and drift wood and real plants. I was thinking of puting sand in my new tank would that be better

Thanks i will anwser any thing eles

well it could be when you moved you RTC....it could have been in a new tank with different conditions than what it was acclimating in and just messed up its appetite...thats probably one guess

I think we are thinking along the same lines here but I want to make sure that I understand properly what your talking about So explain your process of a "tank cleaning"

I'm having a really hard time understanding why you are actually moving your fish from the tank that your cleaning... how often does this happen?
