So photos of Bad Cat... this is when he was about 4 inches long.


Pushing 8 or 9 inches



About 13 inches long living in his 210 gallon tank with the 2 Oscar's he ended up eating.


In May 2018 he was 20 inches. In the photo you can see his buddy, the Black Shark. Not a fan of the black shark. Nasty little fish. But Bad Cat has not eaten him so....

Nice and honest account. A rather odd place to share it. I'd think starting Bad Cat's own thread and updating it regularly would get a lot more attention than buried in oblivion here on page 70.

No, you really should not. More like 5 feet wide and 12 feet long. They just grow wat to large and they are not as flexible as other cat fish. They do need room... something most people have a hard time understanding. My RTC is just over 2 years old and is quite large. Already in a tank 8 feet long by 3 feet wide. Depth of water is less of an issue than floor space.

It'd be better than most but still not adequate IMHO. Yet, I can't believe that in the 20-30 years of the expected lifespan you won't have a chance to grow in the hobby and upgrade. Is your life that stable, even paced and predictable?

I realize many have to downgrade too. Can't discount that. Life's unpredictable.

So it'd be a wonderful start for the first 2, 3, maybe 4 years. It also depends on the gender - IME males are substantially smaller or grow slower. Males have a sloping and narrower head versus females whose heads are wider and flatter. It is only evident at larger sizes though, it seems.

So I bought a TSNxRTC hybrid and let’s just say they grow extremely quick... quicker than I thought. I bought him in September when he’s was around 3 in long... I figured I’d grow him out for my 1300 gallon pond and he’d be ready to go in it by spring... when I was going to put in a heating system that involved using a compost bin to heat the water... we’ll he’s now 11 inches long and out growing the 100 gallon I have him in... that’s 8 inches in 3 months. I am now buying a temporary mini pond to put him in so that he doesn’t feel cramped. Moral of the story before buying RTC, TSN, or the hybrid make sure your tank is big enough. If you don’t have the means to provide for the fish don’t buy it!!! If your not willing to give the fish the longest life possible don’t buy it. Don’t get me wrong I love my hybrid but they’re massive size and quick growth rate make it an absolute necesity to have a big enough tank right from the get go.

il do that as soon as I can get a good video of the fish.The tsn usually hits in the pvc pipe tunnels I placed in the pool for him so its really hard to get good videos and photos of him
