Hi!
I have a 16' RTC that I have in a 55 gal, I know i know its a small tank, Im working on a larger tank till we can get a pond set up, he has to 4 in' spotted gar in the tank with him, he has been in the 55 gal since he was about 5'in. I have never had a problem with him not eating, he is quite energentic as well. I recently started feeding him Tilapia filets (chunks) in moderation, and Chicken liver also in moderation, switching them up about every other day along with a couple of the carnivore sinking pellets. About 4 days ago the tank got really cloudy and smelled really strong of ammonia, around the same time he stopped being interested in food, he still is very active and comes to the top when i walk over like he wants food but then he wants nothing to do with it, he still loves being pet as well. the only thing that has changed is that he will not eat and he is breathing hard, at first I thought he had something stuck in his gill or in his throat due to how hard he was actually breathing, I did a 50% water change and declorinated the water, also adding some Start Zyme to adjust the PH level, also Using Ammonia Clear to cut down some of the Ammonia, My Test Results after the water change and treatment were. Ammonia 4.5,Nitrate-160, Nitrite 10, Hardness is at 300 which is terrible being that the water here is supposed to be softened, so I need to go get some Aquarium salt? Am i correct? Akalinity was at 50 and the PH lvl was 7.0. I need some help I am super concerned about him losing his appetite like he has. I dont want to lose him he is like my child. Im doing everything and anything possible to get the money together for a new tank, for the time being. I had a job when I got him and due to recent economic conditions, have lost my job. But I am still doing everything and anything that I can do for him. Someone Please help me with tips or pointers or suggestions as to what I can do to fix this!!!
