Bio-spira....lots of it and soon along with large water changes. Make sure there is no clorine or clorimines in your tap water.

Thanks for the info however I don't have a tank available to fit him.

Filtration wise I have a 4 foot by 2 foot sump with 800 biobals and an eheim that turns the tank 3 times per hour (1500lph) ther's also a wet dry eheim doing 600lph. Don't know why it's not cycling :irked: I change about 15% of the water each week using pure Scottish tap water very few additives arround here. the tanks been set up for seven months and the sump about 5-6 months but the eheims' been running on my previous six foot and my five foot before that, 18 months at least

he stoped feeding normally ie 6-7 large shrimp and a pice of boned non oily fish. If he coughs anything up it's out of the tank in 6 hours max.

Doing 40% water change and I'll look for instant cycle tomorrow morning any suggestions for the best one this side of the pond??

Yes 6x2x2 was intending on building a 7x4x3 for him once he reaches 20 inch !!!!!!!!!!

He's a shade under 19 inches just now

no they should look and more importiantly smell 'used'

If your bio-load is growing faster than the BB can keep up with then it's possible youve just expieranced a cascade die off. that would account for the ammonia levels...To be honest with you ammonia levels should ALWAYS be unmeasurable at ANY ph. I'd toss out any test kit that gave 'safe' levels of amonia in the aquarium.

:iagree:

What else is in the tank? what are your feeding habits?

See Wolf3101 about keeping anything in the tank dead or alive.........

There are only two kinds of fish in the world...Redtailed cats and Redtailedcatfood...

His normal feeding habits were Five times a fortnight 3-4 day intervals 6-7 tiger prawns shelled but raw, or 3-4 prawns and a chunk of boned non oily fish.
