rtc in a pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You have a coldwater pond. Unless you plan to heat it, your options are limited.

You also have a pond too small for an RTC. Look into something different.

Ughh common ,just cuz you have coldwater doesn't mean u are limited! Just not as big as an option compared to tropical. You can look at bass(small mouth or large mouth) a small group of them, you can look at trout preferable brook, you can also think of weather loaches, sunfish(you can get a pair and watch them breed like crazy, any types of goldfish but not koi, rainbow fish have amazing coloration! Hard to get though you prob will have to order them online, hmmm that's what I can think of for that pond, I'll post a few more once I remember somemore

The dimensions of your tank aren't that bad for a while. You could put him in there for a couple years but you definately need heating! My RTC is anywhere from 78 to 80 degrees so mid 60s is definately a no go.

2 years would be maximum, maybe even only a year and a half depending how clean you water is and how much you feed.

my biggest concern is you living in phoenix, ( i live in las vegas)
are our summers, with it getting over 110 even in the shade,
i would worry about an outdoor pond getting too hot in the summer,
you could always make up for it in the winter with heaters, i agree
with the above posted those dimensions are right at 700 gallons, I wouldnt
see a problem with keeping a RTC in there, but i would def. worry about
it over heating, and in those hot conditions anything not eaten would need
to be removed very quickly.

I think in Phoenix is plenty warm enough for for a RTC in a pond.
