RTC swallowed airstone.... help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can use table salt, just make sure it doesn't have Iodine in it. And if it breaks down in just regular freshwater in 4 months, it'll probably break down even faster in the fish's stomach acid. It should be all out in a week or 2, I'm sure he'll be fine, best of luck!

maybe you shouldn't feed him until he throws up the air stone...... if he does at night unmonitored you could have a nitrate spike that kills the rtc.. just let him be until he decides its time to throw it up.

good call, thanks for all your help guys... haha i posted a thread on here a couple weeks ago about how my RTC will only eat pellets and nothing else... lol how i couldnt get him to eat anything else... well i got my wish didnt i

from what ive read previously, most of the time the RTC's end up throwing up whatever it is theyve swallowed, wether it be ornaments, filter nozzels, or thermometers

read that as 'heaters' and expelled some milk from nose

Haha nice, yea now thinking back on it, its is kinda funny

he threw it up, problem solved itself

awesome! good catfish!

good, im glad he got it out. i was kidding about the fishy laxatives, i just thought it was gonna hurt if he had to pass it. like poopin out a basketball haha. i only use the long airstones and put them under the gravel for that reason.

You would not get a nitrate spike but you could get an ammonia spike but hopefully any tank set up for rtc would be used to large ammonia influx every time it poops...the nitrate would follow later once the nitrogen cycle was complete.
