oh ok buddy but does the bacteria decrease if fish doesn't produce ammonia?i mean i have put in driftwood in my tank to promote good bacteria growth and my filter media is way thicker than it ought to be so bacteria will grow but will they decrease if my fish don't poop enough? i do water changes regularly and when I say regularly i mean everyday..about 30-40%..sometimes a skip a day when i'm busy so i check the ammonia and it is just fine..the highest ammonia content i ever tested in my tank was 0.25ppg..THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!

A fish will always produce ammonia as they discreet it from there gills 24/7 so combine that with food waste and poo there is a lot ammonia being put in to the tank so the very largest filters are required when mine was in a tank 6x2x2 i had 4 canaster filters running Eheim and Rena models and as i have told you befor once i rebuild the pond ill be using a Koi pond filter which will be able to filter a 7000gallon highly stoked pond so i think a rew redtails and other fish will be no trouble for it pluse a Bakki shower for the warmer months so not to lose to much heat but alway make shore you can afford to go all the way or other wise whats the point it will just be another redtail left to DIE:swear: due to to small a home and not enought filtration.

yes a human swimming pool..i will replace all the water there with water treated with anti chlorine and water conditioner..of course i won't just dump him in when he is already big..i will get the pool ready for him..no one swims in that thing anyway..what filter would be able the cope up with RTC in the pool?

I am not sure how you would filter it- I guess a modified pool filter would be able to handle filtration, but you would need to get the media cycled just like any other tank setup.

What temperature is the water in the pool? You will also have to worry about that- you will need to have the water heated to maintain it around 78 degrees (F)

Would you have the option of building an indoor pond? That might be easier for you set-up wise, rather than maintaining the pool. At a very basic level some wood and a pool liner would do the trick.

It all going to depend on what your weather is like over there ie if you have hot summers and cold winter like we do coz if so then if you are planning on using an out door pool you will need to cover it and heat in during the winter and that will cost thousands my first pond was out doors great during the summer when it would get to a good temp and maintain it thro the night as well but as soo as the weather started to cool off over the autum months the heater was on 24/7 trying to keep the temp up and that was costing me about £5+ a day and over a couple of months very VERY expencive. As anything under 20c for a large catfish is just NO good so think it all throu!!!!! As for filtration i take it the swimming pool will have many outlets and inlets and some kind of sand filter which is the same as a koi pond filter so as long as it is big enough to deal with having fish in there it will be fine but the whole pool will need draining and all pipe work will need cleaning and the filter will need stripping down and cleaning and then the whole thing will need to be filled and re emptyed again and idealy a sample of water sent to a bio chemist to make shore there are no traces of chemicals left in the system or as soom as the red tail gose in there it will DIE!!!! from chemical poisening. what size is the pool as well?

No just didant have the pond insulated for the colder months now that the pond is in doors it dont cost no where near as much!!!!

we don't have winter here man..its all hot days and rainy days thats all..

its really funny.. the saying that the grass seems greener on the other side is soooooo true..most of my countrymen have yet to experience snow and cold weather..we complain all day how hot it is and wish for snow but there its all "damn i wish it was summer all year long"...but i guess that the weather here is just peachy for fishkeeping, no need for heater so guys come for a visit once and you may want to stay..your $$ is worth a lot here..
