Pics of my RTC. About 8 inches in length, was beaten by another fish prior to getting it so 1 whisker missing and tail a bit damaged. Hopefully the whisker and tail fully recover.

your point is?

I seriously don't get it. Whenever somebody post a picture or say they bought a RTC, people would surely post those pictures over and over and over again. There is already a sticky at the catfish sub-forum about how large can RTC get, I believe people can read for themselves.

To OP, beautiful rtc there. Hopes he recover :D

I'm sure with clean water and good food (lots of it), he'll recover in no time. :)

He will be fine, rtcs are tough fish. My hybrids always get into little territorial conflicts with each other and one always loses a little whisker or some tail. Nothing to worry about as it will all grow back. What i do worry about though is the gill curl and sunken bellyI am seeing on your rtc in the last picture. I promise i will NOT flame you but i am curious what your setup is for your rtc? Tank size, water parameters, maintenance schedule, tank mates etc. I am here to help. :)

Yes I do know they get enormous. But thanks for the reminder.

Thanks derekp.....any help or input will be much appreciated.:)

Not sure how things were (care, maintenance, water parameters, etc.) with the previous owner. I did notice some gill curl and the sunken belly after getting him into the tank.

Currently I housed the RTC in a 60 gallon for recovery.....prior to moving into 200 gallon community tank. I want the RTC to recover before moving into a community. Running an Overhead Wet/Dry Drip box filter. Water changes on a weekly basis or more as needed (standard with all my other tanks). Ammonia/Nitrate/Nitrite is 0 based on API freshwater master kit. Has 1 hybrid cichlid as tank mate, but they do not bother each other. Also provided a cave setting in the tank for the RTC.

I have not tried to feed the RTC yet, wanted to wait 24 hours before trying to feed so he has some time to settle into my tank. Going to give some Hikari massivore pellets, tilapia fillet, market shrimp later tonight n see if he eats.

Okay sounds like you have a good home for him for now. Definitely give him time to adjust to the new tank. Mine didnt eat for a week when I transferred him from my 300 to my 700 gallon. I like what you are planning on feeding him. That is all what mine gets fed. Also I am curious, that 200 gallon will be okay for a few months, but not for long term. They should reach at least 18 inches in their first year of life. What are your plans for him once he outgrows the 200 gallon? Also beware that your cichlid may become food sooner or later if the rtc outgrows him. Good luck with him though. :)

apparently the only thing that will outgrow that RTC is your arrogance. I hope your life extends beyond an internet forum and petty arguments. :D

I wasn't sure if the sunken belly was due to internal parasites or just malnutritioned so gave some Hikari massivore pellets but didn't seem interested. So took some market shrimp, cut it in half, put a fishing string through it and dropped it in front of him in his cave.....he gobbled it right up. So just gave him 3 shrimp for today. Will continue to feed and observe. His sunken belly seems to have gone away...belly more plump now.

From the 200 gallon tank I will transfer to a 400 gallon pond, then eventually into 1,500 gallon pond.

I realize that RTC will try and eat anything that will fit into there mouths be it they are able to consume it or choke to death on it. My 200 gallon tank has a 24" plus silver aro, 13 inch red belly pacu, 9 inch flowerhorn, and a few smaller fish. Before the RTC become too large for the 200 gallon tank, it will be in the pond.

Thanks for your input and comments. I really appreciate your time.
