Hey guys I am debating which first Asian Aro to choose from. At first I was going to pick up a Super Red but I decided to go for a cheaper one for my first. Either a RTG or HBRTG. Since this is my first Asian Aro I would like to gain some experience with a lower cost one and learn on what types of foods to feed for a healthy and nice quality Asian Aro. I've seen all types of reds, xbacks, and RTG's everywhere and I have a few friends who had these fish before so I know how they look. Even though the RTG grades don't even compare to the higher ones I still like the gold/red fins look. Also in Canada RTG's sell for pretty cheap and they are mostly known as the affordable Asian Aro besides the Green. Anyhow my friend's LFS is getting a bunch in and they asked me if I wanted one at a very good price but I've been leaning towards the HBRTG more then the regular RTG but the price is merely double compared to the 2. Is it worth the price to wait and get the HBRTG or spend half the money and just settle for the regular RTG?

The HBRTG the colors of the gold goes really high up towards their back while the regular one the gold cuts off more. I would say at least a inch difference on the color line cut off point. That's why it's named High Back RTG.

Also in my poll I added the Super Red option because the price difference on a SR vs HBRTG is only a few hundred more between the two. Basically from RTG vs HBRTG vs SR the price difference between each other is about 300 bux more from lowest to highest.

i have a hbrtg, look for my other threads and you'll see pics,
to be honest bro, don't get a SR, first of all without adequate lighting i find they lack that RED!
HBRTGs depending on genetics can get upto 5th level shine sometimes a bit of 6th level,
mine is on his 5th level already
regular rtg's stop at 4th level!
so its really up to you.
IMO a rtg is still nice because it still has a good amount of gold and depending on the farm nice body shape etc.

Oh, if the only difference is the amount of color, I would definitely just go with the regular RTG and save the $300.

bro then ull be shocked to know the diff between a hbrtg and a xback can be thousands because of color and how high it goes

Yes it would be a wiser choice to save the money and buy the RTG but for Asian Aros it's all about the color quality. IMO the HBRTG gold color is alot nicer then the regular one. If u see both in person you would know what I mean;)

Wow, no offense to anyone on here, but that really makes me wonder why anyone would spend so much money on the "higher grade" aros, when the "lower grade" aros are pretty much the same to anyone who hasn't been informed on the differences.

higher grade = better color and more shine, when your into asian arowana trust me its what you look for, crazy fish, i suggest a RTG because you dont want to lose a more expensive fish over small mistakes even though you are pretty experienced. Just get a RTG and see how it works with the other silvers in your tank

Ya I have many years of experience with Silver Aros and Jardinis but none with a Asian Aro...He'll be the only Aro in the tank. He'll be in the 225 instead of the 450. When my DIY tank is built then I might change my 450 to a Asian Aro community later on in the future.
