What would be good tank mates for a rtg ?

anything bottom dwelling.

On a side note, there is beauty in a RTG. It should'nt be compared to a CB, Red, etc. I think its nice with it being half rimmed and all.

What? your from Houston how would you know that?
As far as im concerned a lot of people ive seen hold aros in 4x2x2 in asia and they grow to max size and live a happy life.
6x2.5x2 is enough for an asian aro.
I agree bigger is always better but 6x2.5x2 is definately sufficient.

I think anything fast enough or swim in groups will hold up to aro, also size is an issue too.

But all very dependent on the actual fish since all are different.

I don't think those "max" sized Asian Aros would be happy in a 4'x2'x2'.

It's called the internet... A 24"+ fish in a 4'x2'x2' is not a happy fish. It can barely swim 2 feet without having to turn around. Just because people in Asia do it, doesn't mean it's beneficial for the fish. Why aim for the bare minimum when you can do better.

lol. "is not a happy fish" also didnt know all asians get to 24+ ok :)
since 4x2x2 = unhappy fish, that means 90% of all aro's in asia are unhappy.
Ofcourse go for big is better but does everyone have that much room?
Does 8x2x2 also mean happy fish? bad filter, bad water etc. in a 8x2x2 = dead fish, many people with a 4x2x2 can overfilter and get a much more healthy fish.
To be honest if this is going to be a "unfair for fish" discussion, im out. If that comes out we might aswell all give up fish keeping unless we have a 10k gallon pond.

cool story...

I think something with at least 30" width is required and a minimum of 72" length. If you have seen them in the flesh you can really see they need something larger still. They are very active and forever swim up and down.

Someone mentioned 8x3x3 which sounds ideal. Why spend so much on a fish then skimp on the tank. Plus, it is far easier to keep the params in check in a larger tank than a 4x2x2... :)

Cool story haha really ? Lol!
I haven't seen them in flesh? I've seen 24+ Asians and have a close friend has a 24 red and a 21 gold.
Again read: not everyone has a big enough room for 8x3x3?
I've seen aros thrive, and have huge appetite + active from a 4x2x2 to a 6x2x2 and bigger.
8x3x3 is obviously 'ideal' but having a 5k gallon pond is also 'ideal'.
IMO 6x2.5x2.5 is enough if you have the room

A slight change in size there! You need to pick a size and stick with it ;)

The dimensions you believe are adequate have nothing to do with your own tank size do they!?

How long will a rtgg be able to live In a 6.5x2.5x2.5 is it sufficient for life ?

Begining to doubt yourself or just curious if its alright for you to get one? ;)

Ultimately, we as fishkeepers should strive for the best, and if we can't do that then we shouldn't keep fish. If you only have a 4x2x2 at your disposal, don't get an aro. Simple. ;)

LOL I wonder why some Asian aro's don't get past 24".. when in the wild they get well over 30". You can go ahead and keep your Aro's in a 4x2x2. It's not gonna bother me lol.
