Ok, so I woke up this morning to find my RTMs holding down a corner of my 265 against everyone. I had been waiting for this to happen, mostly because of plans for the fry. Both are F1s from Rapps, the Male is 7 inches, female 5.
The Dovii have been a pair for some time but never having success on egglaying because of the other bigger fish. Both are Costa Rican from Don Conkel, the female is 6-7, male is 3-4.
These pairs are housed in a 265 with an 8 inch Carpintis, 8 inch Festae, a nasty 5-6 inch Trimac, a 4 inch Convict, a Pictus, and a Synodontis.
Plans for the summer are to get fry .5-1 inch by May first, then release the RTM fry into a pond by themselves, the Dovii fry in a pond by themselves and hopefully (keeping fingers crossed), festae fry in a pond by themselves. The ponds are courtesy of a local community colleges Aqua Tech program.
Question...is the male Dovii to small to fertilize? or fertilize successfully?
COmments/advice etc welcomed, as this will be my first pond experiment.
