RTM Pair & Dovii Pair together

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they are called Red Tiger Motaguense, or parachromis motaguense, a relative to the dovii, and jaguars.

beautiful Mota and Dovii. i like the set up too. and when they start to breed you said your putting the fry in ponds given to you by the local college?

Good Observation(s).

The Male RTM is in the bottom 1/3 of the hierarchy in the tank and isnt as aggressive an eater as the others. Occasionally Ill put half a shrimp on a skewer and feed it to him, keeping the Trimac especially, away.

I think the same about the Doviis. I might keep them and just have the pair for life in there (if they are that compatible). If not, Ill just find another good home for them.

Wonder what one has to do to get on this list? Ha-ha.

Thanks! I have a friend in the Aqua Tech program at the local college and he has use of about 10 1/2 acre ponds, for whatever he wants to try over the summer. Our goal is to put 3 different sets of fry in 3 different ponds in May, then the first week in September, see what made it and how many we have, how big etc. They have 800 gal indoor holding tanks and a few 6000 gal indoor holding tanks, so they will go to there come September. We will be selling them after we pull them all out of the ponds.

Our hope for those that make it is to be at least 3 inches long (all 3 species), but hopefully bigger. They are fed several times a day and the ponds will be strictly species specific.

Ha Ha! They have to be able to be faster and have a bigger mouth for holding food than the Trimac mostly. He tries to take everything that hits the top of the water, no matter how much hes had or how full his mouth is.

He's :screwy: and will eat so much that he lies on the bottom of the tank huffing and puffing for about 30 minutes.

No, I meant the list of good homes...what does one have to do to get on the "good home" list for those fish.

ahhh. gotcha. Well, the dovii full grown in captivity get upwards of 20 inches, so a large tank would be a must for starters. Ive seen people keep a compatible pair in a 180 gal, but I think even thats too small for life. My 265 would probably be considered a bare minimum...so you better re-enforce your floors.:nilly:

Red Tiger Motaguense ^^

Very nice fish. The Dovii might still be a bit young but you wont know unless he does that sh*t up haha
