I love the black sand and background. I had a tank set up like that for a while so I know what you mean about the grain size. Every time I cleaned it the sand would get sucked up and was a real pain, now I just mix it with PFS to tone down the color and it works better for me. I stopped at Petsmart last night on my way home to restock some meds and saw they had a bunch of fish on the dollar menue so I bought 9 white sailfin mollies to put in my JD, GT tank with a black background and PFS/black mix substrate and I'm very happy with the look and what I hope will be a steady supply of food as they pump out some young'uns. I'll see how my plan works out.

You have a great looking tank and great photo, good luck with it!

Sean had them mixed too and it looks great. I'm still hesitant because there's no way to un-mix them.

Maybe I should try it in a smaller tank and see how it works :)

Great picture, beautiful fish, and beautiful tank! That driftwood is an amazing piece, you really know what you are doing with your "aquascaping".

The first tank I switched to sand, I used black "Tahitian moon sand"...I feel your pain, that stuff was pretty terrible, I was happy to get rid of it. I've been using some of it in a 10g and I just recently dumped it, it killed more filters than it was worth. I use PFS now in all my tanks and I love it.

haha LOVE it! best tank idea ever lol, but great full tank shot, and GOOD LUCK with those daemons hopefully they will give you lots of babies (and with the magic that's floating in your water im sure its only a matter of time lol) maybe go on a trip for memorial weekend and they will have babies waiting for you when you get back, that always seems to work haha

About 8 years ago, I had a 55 gal. tan set up for Lake Malawian cichlids. At the time our area in AZ where I lived, we had a forrest fire evacuation. When I left, I fed them one last time. I was torn between leaving them or not to. I told myself, I couldn't take them to the evacuation center as there was just room for me , my family and our 3 dogs. I had to leave them, (1 pair of Malawi Golden Cichlids, 1 pair of Eduard's Mbuna, and 1 pair of Nyassa Blue Zebra Cichlids) and was really hoping and praying I'd be able to come home to a sound and secure home, with my fish tank still intact.

When the danger had passed, 10 days later, I returned home. My house and everything was still there. I immediately went inside the house, did a quick walk through and checked my tank. As I approached it, I was preparing myself to see all 3 pairs floating upside down on the surface. But to my surprise, they were all still alive and paired off into different sections of my tank. I thought for a moment or two looking into the top of my tank and to my surpise again, the pairs mated, hatched the eggs and was taking care of their young. 3 separate dark clouds of fry were hovering in the water with each of their parents. I'm assuming that not all the fry survived. After taking and setting up two smaller additional tanks, (35 gal. each) I transfered two of the pairs and their young into a separate tank. And they thrived well and grew. I eventually sold the fry when they got to be about 2" in size.

Moral to this is, I guess, is to let nature take it's course. Do go away as Sarah88 suggests. Maybe when you return, you'll have a pleasent surprise waiting for you.

Here's wishing much success to the breeding of your Angel's and daemon's. Cheers.

Thanks! I think the eheim is going to have problem soon. I'll have to find a prefilter (sponge filter replacement collapsed in no time) or saw off part of the intake tube..

That's quite a story!! I do need to get away....for an entirely different reason tho ;)

On the other hand, the last time I took an extended trip, I lost a wild breeding pair of H. pearsei.....

My wife was taking care of them. Said she fed every other day like I told her to, and that they jumped with the lids on. :screwy: What are you gonna do.....

On another note, the angel in the picture spawned yesterday. Not the female I wanted him to spawn with but.... Now I have to decide if I should sacrifice a large Anubias leaf to save the eggs....probably not.
