rumor- drop eye

well i read somewhere its from a diet to high in fat. the fat causes deposits behind the eye pushing it out and then down. it said try and stay away from feeders and get your aro onto fillets, shrimp and pellets.

any comments?

They get the same diet as most silvers (generally speaking)

I feed my black the exact same thing that I feed my silver, and the black doesnt even have a hint of drop eye.

could this be a genetic defect brought on by home aqurimist breeding the aros and not varying the family tree?

That was discussed earlier this year, and come to find out that silver arowana are amost all wild caught and grown out in asia.

I like the pond idea. I know everybody is going to say what about the other aro species... well... I think it is a numbers game. Its pretty safe to say that there are more silvers than any other aro in aquariums, right? But I don't really know.

Have had success "curing" DE by placing aros in ponds/FGTs. As to why they develop DE, there are many reasons being thrown around, some more controversial then others. As to the question of are there more silvers then Asian aros or otherwise, good question...I could guess but a safer answer would be heck would I know.

Certainly to some including myself, DE is not classified as a defect & can be overlooked in lieu of body shape, coloration etc.

get on your table,put your head up to the ceiling.
now look around,where are you looking?look up,nice view?
now go outside,look around,now look up.better?
if you had to live like both those,what one would you pick?

aros like to be at the top.in a tank,they look up,they see glass and one bright azz light in there face.
i would always be looking down too lol

these threads about drop eye annoy me to be honest, however, the public must be educated!!
