This might help explain the non silver base color in your Indian AT's.

Specimens from the Indian subcontinent exhibit a dull grey-black base coloration, while Southeast Asian specimens have the characteristic silvery-white base (Schafer - Aqualog Brackish Water Fishes).

Polta has a wide range, I'm sure there are color/pattern and shape/size variations among the localities. They also are normally a brackish species more often then found in fresh water. I'm sure factors like growing out in FW will effect the end result when compared to imports caught at a larger size in brackish and then moved into FW.

Certainly, no doubt there are subtle differences in AT's collected at different geographical locations. I was simply passing along some info found in Aqualog which explains the differences in base color between those found in India, and those found in SE Asia.

There's plenty of examples posted on MFK & elsewhere of adult AT's, so at this point adult coloration, patterns, etc in polta aren't exactly a mystery.
