So, I came home from work today and started to do a 50% water change on my 55 gal african cichlid tank. After I got all 50% out of the tank I start to fill up my bucket in the tub to refill and the water comes out a horrible brown, some of the rustiest water ive ever seen. I find out that the water company is going to be doing a major cleaning in all the pipes in my area for the next few days. so now Im stuck with my tank half full (<-- still optomistic lol) the water is lower then then suction pipes on my filter and lower then my heater?
ANY THOUGHTS? IDEAS? ANYTHING?

OMG , That is one hell of a situation. I would put all the bio media from your filters in the tank and run some air pumps to keep the fish alive. Maybe even make an emergency trip to wall mart for one of those in tank filters and throw some of your bio in there to help. Sorry to hear about that.

Yeah, you gotta get some water. Just go to walmart with a couple of five gallon buckets and fill them up at the water fountain. It's free, you just will probably have to buy some prime. ;)

Or just go to a friend's house who has water and get it there.

yeaaaaa that sounds like the best solution, Im ganna run to my friends house on the other side of town, I got 2 big 5 gal buckets. Not ganna go to walmart tho. You cant do that out here in New York lol , just walk into the store and start filling up gallon of water in big buckets hahahaha wow Im glad I started with my 55 gal and not my 125 or I would be makeing a million trips.

Gosh, what do they expect you to do while they clean out the pipes? Do you use your tap water as drinking water? I wouldn't even want to consider showering in that. Lol

Also there are the water machines in front of Safeway etc. Its good water!

man they can care less about us at these dam companies. im sure the water is clear at their house lol. so I rigged it up real quick to get them through tonight, I searched like crazy and found the extender tubes for the intake of the aqua clear HOB filter (I thought I threw away because I have sand and dont want to suck up any sand and ruin my filter) so I put that on and ran a extension cord for more slack on my heater and but it at the bottom of the tank. only problem is it sounds like a giant waterfall in my house now. lol but I think they should be good till tomorrow and ill get some water from a friends house. they should be good like this right???, theres about 8 inches of water and about 7 two inch african cichlids in my 55.
