If i had the space i would go for something like festae, beani, or haitientsis. it seems like theyre hard to keep and breed. i mean i see it bein done but its not as regular as Dovii, jack dempseys etc. If you were able to get something goin with one of these species i think not only would you be very happy but you would also be able to spread those little joys around if you successfully spawned them. I also think Istlanum are a good one too. i hear too many stories of people loosing their females or male and being left with only one not being able to replace the pair

Yeah it sucks to hear about a mate dieing in a pair. Just got to hope it doesn't happen to you.

I'd say Vieja regani. They're beauties and a bit of a challenge to spawn, at least for me.

No, I never thought about pikes. I have never kept them before. I have ready some on them. They seem like fun fish to keep.

I say get some Red Istlanums! If you want to go with a smaller setup, I'd do Bartonis.

I saw a pair of Amphilophus Zaliosus at my LFS, I would definately get those if I had a spare tank. I always like the more rare Amphilophus species. A breeding pair of Lyonsi would be very nice as well, or Trimacs.
