I'm doing the black diamond blasting sand with my tank that house five different catfish one of witch sifts through the sand all day and haven't had any problems at all. I was worried when I first bought it as to how my fish were going to take to it but now I have no worries. I did find that if you don't wAsh it enough it will drop ph, so just keep an eye out till it runs its course
