Really sorry to hear that! Bad enough when they die, but harder to have to put a pet to sleep.

O's are really, imo, one of the greatest fish to keep. I recently had to give mine away and of all the fish I had to five away, I do miss my O's the most.

I hate to be a pill, but are you sure the conditions you were providing were adequate? I mean, I'd hate to see your next Oscar meet the same fate. But I totally understand that some fish just don't make it, so I'm not pointing fingers or anything. Heck, my own O got HITH a while ago. I figured out I was changing too much water, but, yeah... Best of luck with your next O!
