sad sad day

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow kanta, I did not know that...anyone else here experience this before? I'm wondering what the cause was-there has to be a reason...please w/b if you are an experienced ray keeper and have had this happen to you...maybe we can all piece together what the possible cause was ...I know that I feed my rays shrimp-and that another member mentioned that his died on shrimp-but I clean mine-meaning taking the shell off, and then cutting the shrimp in half to make it easier for them to eat...anyone?

I know zilch about rays. But have lost, in one day, two 2 footer Arowana and a 2 feet Clown Knife due to shrimp ( anyway, that is the only explanation I found ).

Sometimes, living things just die, and we seem to forget that possibility, in our love for our fish.

Maybe it was the food. I've lost a few rays to shrimp so I stopped giving them that and havent lost a ray ever since.

Must have been some fierce shrimp !
I don;t buy your linkage.

Arofan
your temp at 83 constant is too high imo.
80 max. 76 is a better average.
your pH is also high. While rays can do ok in higher pH ( harder) water it is obviously not ideal.
Your nitrAtes are high also.

Sorry for your loss. I have had a foot long pleco die for no apparent reason with "perfect" water conditions. There are several other fish in the tank that have been doing good ever since. I have no idea why it died, and probably never will.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about fluoride? I know many cities fluoridate there water supplies, which actually makes no sense IMO. There is allot of info on the web about it and it seems some people can have negative reactions to it and it is in general not good for you to ingest it. Maybe this can effect fish as well? You can call your local water supply company and they will tell you if they fluoridate. It really sucks because it takes either an RO filter or an alumina filter to get it out of the water.

Just a thought.

Forget about the ph as long as it is stable it is fine, 8ph would not be a problem as long as stable.

I would test for copper, chloramine and maybe re-test everything with a new set of test kits.
