10-15ppm on nitrates is not that high at all! That didnt kill ur ray IMO.... PH....As long as it doesnt spike or drop drastically, It can be 8... If its stable, rays can survive very well in it. I have seen nitrates in the 60's and higher range.... Nitrate are toxic, but not near as bad as nitrite and ammonia...

I think you mis-read which is what I did...I think he was saying normally 15ppm but then noticed not where it should be...meaning higher.

My tank is 300gal, has 2x30 -60gal auto changes and 1 30%water change per week with zero nitrate water, I also have a deltec nitrate reactor dripping out zero nitrate water....my nitrate often gets to 40ppm....I honestly think people are not testing correctly or they are erring on the lower side or just plain kidding themselves with what their tanks are running at.

If fed decent amounts these fish pour out waste, a deacon filter turns this in to nitrate, nothing to be ashamed of but I think people underestimate the levels and how quickly they can build up...zero to sixty in 1 week is easy

Not sure if this is pointed at me, but my tests are accurate...there are only two rays in this 500 gallon pond (used to be three) ranging from 7-9 in that's it...with 35-40% weekly water change.
I will however check for copper, as I never have.

No, it was not pointed at you, it was a general point...dont worry...if I was to point at you it would have been clear LOL.
