So as some may or may not know, I got my girlfriend a 10 gallon tank which I later upgraded to a 30. I have been dealing with trying to get her to treat the fish with respect, it took forever to get her to agree to weekly water changes. I still have to do it for her sometime.

Now yesterday I notice 2 dead fish, which I removed, she has yet to notice. I want to see how long it takes her, I have to push her to do anything, test the water or change the water.

I am kinda ticked, one one hand they are not my fish to care, for but on the other they deserve to be cared for, which is why I do it. When I say anything she just tells me I am obsessing and they are just fish :WHOA::eek:.

BTW if you have a biocube and small fish, make sure you cover the back of it where the pump compartment is. I have lost three guppy's to the impeller, before I figured it out and covered it up.

You assume that she has the same interest in fish as you...apparently she doesn't.

water changes, in my opinion, can go without.. i change water about once every 2 months. except for certain tanks because certain fish poop like crazy.

if i were you. i'd ask for the tank. since u payed for it anyway.

maybe she doesn't want the tank anyway, and you'll be doing her a favor taking it off her hands.

Hmm well you got her a 10, but then you upgraded it? why did you do that if she didnt do normal water changes and take care of them? I wouldnt have gotten a bigger tank. Unless she did at first and now she doesnt. If it were me, Id take the tank and bring it to my house. See if she notices then. If she asks why you did that say that you can take better care of them, and they were dying in which she didnt even notice some fish missing. If you live together... then you need to take care of the tank and make it your own, or if you cant, I suggest visiting the Buy Sell section of MFK.. Theres a very good chance someone on here will buy that for a good price and take care of the fish. If you dont want to sell it and you dont want to take care of it, I suggest re-thinking on what is fair for the fish. You seem like you care enough to make a post you should do the right thing :) Obsessing over your fish she says? Well same thing as anyother pet, if you dont feel like cleaning up dog dumps or getting up to feed it, they die and it is cruel. For fish, if you dont do water changes, feed them, and keep proper care they die. Your not obsessing your just keeping your pet.. the fish...alive. If she doesnt understand how fish are pets, then clearly shes not meant to keep a fish tank. Sorry if I come across as a bit harsh, I dont mean to sound angry I just had some things to say! hehe. good luck my friend, keep us updated!!!

Just cuz you love fish and keeping them doesn't mean everyone else is going to as well. 'Forcing' your hobby on her is just going to push her away more. You should just claim responsibilities for the tanks and keep what you want in them. Perhaps even let her pick out some fishies and say that they are hers even though you take care of them. ;)

Some people love looking at fish but don't enjoy the responsibilites of keeping them. Just step up and take care of them yourself.

I mean look at it this way, if she is obsessed with buying shoes, would you want to go around buying shoes, constantly cleaning them and the like? Of course shoes are awesome, but you have to have the passion and desire to get them in order to enjoy it.

i vote you dump her.. its gunna happen anyway..

or accept that maybe she does not want fish

same idea.
Ask if you can take the tank back, at least you can use it for a hospital tank, or for some frys.
