Saddest Day of My Life....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well....thats probably ur answer right there... rays are very fragile with water params... if you dont own a test kit, then how do u know if ur water p;arams are good or bad?? you probably shouldnt get another ray, unless u take the nessesary research, and time to care for them properly.... sorry about the ray indeed!

I agree with AJ; Rays are very special; You need a ton of filtration, VERY large aquarium (ie 200 gallons plus while they're small), and a ton of water movement; I've had my marble now for over a year and I still test my water at least once a week; My water cycles once every 6 minutes in my 260g; My advice is to read every sticky here in the rays section and then proceed with caution; My condolences on your loss, I know it sucks bad :(

Sorry to hear about the ray. Fyi this is not a bash but not even with ray, if anyone owns any fish they should have a test kit. I think they r like 20-30 bucks go get one and test the water u might find ur answer right then and there

I have been a successful ray keeper now for 3 years and I do own a test kit but sadly I will admit I probably haven't tested my water in over a year. Never any reason to for me. But I am dealing with 600 gallons of water with a religious WC schedule, and the fish have never given me reason to test. But that being said I wouldn't dream of owning fish....any fish with out a good quality test kit thats just beyond dumb IMO. I don't think it would be wise for you as a fish keeper to get any more fish without researching and getting a test kit. Just my .o2

well i have been successfully owning fish for about 4 years with no problems with my water. i also have another ray that is about 24" head to tail, no problems at all...

and he only looks thin from the angle of the pic...

dont forget to buy a new test kit soon. i cant remember their shelf life but i wouldnt trust it after 3 years. plus however long it sat in the store, but you are right with at least having one on hand even if you dont use often.
