Sajica Cichlid -75 Gallon Set Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are looking great!

The aggression levels with mine are not that bad yet because they have line of sight blocked with some large plastic plants and places to hide but if a pair does form... its going to be rough on the remaining fish.

Thanks! Would love to see some pictures of yours if you have any!

I’m actually surprised I havent seen any pairing behavior from mine. The largest female and male I thought were about to pair but now ignore each other. Considering I have more males than females I’m not confident how the dynamic will play out.

He looks great! Starting to show the beginnings of a nuchal hump.

I might be seeing some pairing starting to take place. The largest male and female are starting to spend time in the back corner in a driftwood overhang.

Interesting observations. The one large male has become very passive. Two females have grouped together and are harassing the rest of them, including the largest male.

Quick update. The dominant male is still being chased by a group of three females. He doesn’t seem bothered by it, but its not something I expected. Female is starting to dig small pits in the sand but doesn’t allow the male near it.

Had a pair form and lay eggs. To my inexperienced eye they both appear to be female though. The eggs have turned white so I’m thinking they are not fertile. Not going to make any changes in case they are in fact a male female pair and something went wrong with fertilization. Has anyone experienced a female-female pair?

I definitely have a male/female pair with mine. The male is super friendly with the one female, while he gives chase to all others except one other that I believe is also female. If I were to guess based off behavior of the confirmed male, my ratio is 3 males and 2 females. The female has been in breeding dress for a while but still no spawn. Ive tried large cold water water changes to see if that would trigger and still nothing. Im currently trying to adjust diet and add more than just pellets to see if that gets them ready.

I added spirulina pellets and flakes to my rotation. Not sure if it did anything to help trigger the egg laying. My largest male is the most timid, the females are the aggressive ones. All the eggs turned white and are now gone as of this evening. I may be sexing them wrong but it looks like two females to me. The large male has red on his dorsal, neither of this pair does to any noticeable extend. Tried to get some pictures.
