Salmon tail catfish with Americans?? Will it hurt them?

Hey guys just got a salmon tailed catfish and it's with my Americans. Will this work long term? Bit worried as a mate told me there barbs are like a bee sting? Will they hurt my Americans?

Tank is 4x2x2 upgrading to 6x2x2 tomoz if it arrives hopefully.

I have a
green terror 3.5 inch
Texas 4 inch
Fenestratus 3 inch
2 festae 2.5 inch
2 Jack dempseys 1x 5 inch 1x2.5in
Synspilum 3inch
3 clown loaches
1 syn catfish haha not sure how to spell it
1 red claw crayfish
2 silver dollars
1 salmon tail catfish 5 to 6 inch

Do you think a 6x2x2 will suffice for another year or so.
 
Sorry but no. You will need a huge tank eventually 1000 gallons type size.

As a grow out tank I don't think the cichlids will play nice for a year. Aggression will become a problem much sooner in a 6x2x2.

Yeah I know the cichlids will have their dramas haha all in good time. Grow outs are always hit and miss. The 6x2x2 is only until I get a 8x2x3 which won't be until the end of the year. I don't see many of the cichlids I have chosen being over 6 to 7 inch by that time more likely 5 to 6 inch so hopefully will be OK. My main question is if the salmon tail will hurt them with its mucus covered barbs as I don't want to get infections or fungus due to injury from it?

Veija I have kept in the past have hit 10 to to 12 inches in their first year.
Festea and gt are slower growing I admit.
I just can't see them all playing nice for a year.
Herichthys, festea and veija can all be very aggressive.
I know little about the salmon tail other than they grow to almost 3 feet.
I seriously doubt you will make it work in a 6 foot tank for a year or more.

salmon tails max out at about 40cm. Never seen one bigger in an aquarium. Really the vieja will get that big in 12 months damn... I've just talked to a guy and I will be buying his tank instead. Its 240gal do u think that will be OK?

Depends what species of arius catfish you actuall have. Thats more then 40cm.
. Personally i think thats a descent bioload once they all start getting some size.

I'm getting a 6x3x2 tank delivered this arvo. What size sump would u run on it as it has 2 outlet and 1 inlet holes. I think I'll sell the salmon tail.
