Salmon tail catfish with Americans?? Will it hurt them?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remember the post where stanzzz7 said Oscars average 12 to 14 inches, but sometimes they can grow to 17 inches.
He even provided video evidence of that.

I have been a lurker on this forum a long time and have always enjoyed stanzzz7 posts. I have also seen this person try to be argumentative with him many times.

I think any regular on this forum realizes that stanzzzz7 is a very experienced fish keeper with exceptional knowledge of fish, cichlids in particular.

I urge stanzzz to ignore this person,he is just an antagonist.

I never advised the 1000 gallon tank for anything but the catfish and cichlids together.
Find the post where I said oscars get to 2 feet.
I said they can reach 17 inches.
Christ, how many times must I repeat this?

Been awhile but I do recall you stating that, I could be wrong though. No, Oscars do not get 17 inches, just not so.

Don't remember a video, please show me. I do recall a video that he linked of a Butti with a TSN. Not antagonizing just difference of opinion. I am not the one name calling, simply stating that in the past Stann tends to overdo it as far as recommending tank size for certain cichlids.

Would also like to mention that he posted to me once that he doesn't keep large cichlids, was awhile back but I do remember. Simply stating that if OP gets rid of the catfish he would be okay with a 125 but better with a 240 gallon tank.

You need to look at some of his old posts. I don't think there are many cichlids he hasn't kept, just chooses to keep smaller ones lately.

Just informing to you on what he posted to me months ago. I am paraphrasing but we were arguing about tank size for Buttikefori and I asked him if has ever had one or raised one, he replied with "you don't have to necessarily own or raise a fish to know how big it gets or it's needs."

I have kept cichlids (large ones) for 20+ years and I do consider myself one who knows a lot about keeping large aggressive cichlids together, with that said I am not perfect or know everything. But some of the advice or tank dimensions recommended that I see lately are IMHO a bit overboard.

Yes but you were advising a four foot tank for a buttie.
I don't agree with that but I won't pester you on every post you make regarding stocking and tank size.
I have no wish to continue debating this with you anymore.
You seem to like to twist what's actually been said so it's pointless.

Four foot by 18 inches as I recall, that is adequate for a fish that peaks around 14 inches. So I will ask you, how many Buttikefori have you kept? That is the problem I have people state things without any real experience. So you think a 4 foot 18 inch wide tank is too small for a 14 inch fish? Based on what?

BTW, I don't pester your friend just happens that on certain threads we disagree.
