well, my ID cats/sharks got ich, I put 3 teaspoons table salt (not iondized) per gallon and raised the 76 temp to 82... should I leave my tank an fish like this, or should I change water everyday and add salt every day?

read the posts where people used salt and majority of the time the fish die. Dont salt your fish. use a real med not something you put on your eggs. :)

Whoa you are very very incorrect. Salt is a fishy wonder drug.

I would do a ten percent water change every other day and add salt accordingly.

Just realized you're using table salt. I would shy away from that and use actual aquarium salt.

well I could use my salt that I use in my SW aquariums... I just wanted to save money on my stuff!

There is no reason to distance yourself from it. The only table salt to avoid is the one containing yellow prussiate as exposure to sunlight can make it generate a harmful substance, hydrogen cyanide otherwise the rest of table salt not containing it, whether iodized or not, should absolutely be fine. There is no reason why you cannot use iodized salt. The iodine concentration is far too low to harm your fish.

Ocean, 3 teaspoons per gallon should work effectively against ich. Continue treatment for at least 14 days. When you do a water change, do it every 2-3 days and replace the salt per the water volume you changed.

There are many scientific reasons to not use salt. And if u use such a low dose of sodium chloride then why even use it all. The large tropical fish aquaculture farms dont use salt. No fish vet Phd or Phd in fish Pharm supports its use but rather condemn its use. I suggest anyone to go back and read posts where people used salt and most of the time there fish died. There are much better things to use than salt for ich.

Braveheartcalif, it's your own call. Just because some scientific abstracts are condemning it, it does not mean you have to start calling everyone to stop using salt for valid reasons already known. This hobby is mostly trial and error. Remember that our experiences will vary. Some things work for them, some don't. It totally depends as far as how salt is administered, how the environmental conditions change, etc.

You will find I am a member of a goldfish forum where fish vets and biologists are regular contributors who ALSO encourage the use of salt for ich and quarantine procedures. Who are these fish vets and which fish pharm that discourage the use of salt? Do you have links to their scientific abstracts?
