We are not talking about cyprinids but tropical fish and in most cases rare and sensitive types of tropical fish not gold fish/carp. And because of that I really question your qualifications for giving this advise. And to prescribe salt as u do and as often as you do is really unforntunate to the owners. Id suggest you look at your posts where people took your advise on salt. And see how many died, you might impressed. Any excellent tropical fish vet or phd pharm who specializes in tropicals dont subscribe to salt. Because they understand on a cellular and cardiovascular level the harm of it. There is alot of well meaning but misinformed people on these boards on the use of salt as some miracle cure. When in fact it miraculously kills alot of fish or it just wastes precious time when your fish could have the right kind of medications. Fish biology 101: Fish have low lood pressure w/ single circuit system and a 2 chamber heart. Water follows salt, so u add salt, blood pressure rises in the ventral and dorsal aortic cardiovascular system of the tropical fish. As the (BP) rises it triggers cortisol levels to rise along with the heart rate, then say good bye. If your fish is already under stress, then cortisol (the stress hormone) levels are already high. So adding salt in a small dose to an ready stressed fish w/ elevated cortisol levels is all sometimes thats needed for it to drop dead. And in other cases of salt use, tropicals will develop renal failure. And once the kidneys go its good night. FFFA a very large Assoc of tropical fish farmers who breed everything under the sun for the tropical fish trade here in the US condemn its use. Talk to any Certified Fish Pathologist who works on tropicals and they all say the same thing.

I asked for the links of those studies, not just your own summary of what salt is and does. Mind if you link me to those?

If u cant make a case against this basic fish biology 101 which i presented re: salt. And explain why all those fish died under your advise of using salt. Then you failed in supporting your claim that salt is the 1st line of defense as you do. Contact any cerrtified Fish Pathologist at a University or an anatomic Pathology Prof who specializes in tropicals Aquat Anim Health . My own wife is a Phd in this field and is on board. Do your own due diligence. But to say that your member of a goldfish forum somehow qualifies u prescribe salt as u do to these sensitive tropicals. If you where a physician you would have a malpractice lawsuit.

You're making this rather a personal topic, BHC when it is not and do not assume I am not being diligent for the cause of others. All I asked is for links to scientific abstracts to support your explanation on this, not just your own summary of what salt does.

You are claiming that "all those fish died under his advice of using salt" but you are not showing any proof that any fish died, and therefore, in my opinion, those are unfounded and slanderous claims. If you have compiled data showing that a certain amount of fish have died because a certain person advised the use of salt, I want to see PROOF.

Second, I do not think that Lupin is being ridiculous in asking for proof of your other claims. You are saying to call this person and that person, but if you are the one that is presenting information as fact then it is your responsibility to back that information up. If you cannot do that, then i will assume that it is conjecture, effectually discrediting your advice.

I have used salt to treat for years, and I have NEVER lost a fish during a salt treatment. I don't claim to know what salt might do on a biological level to a fish, because I have not read any studies to that effect. I do know that even most freshwater sources contain some sort of level of salt compounds. I also know that I have witnessed no fish deaths while treating with salt. Until I have concrete scientific proof that salt is bad for fish, then I will continue to use it. Your opinion has not fulfilled the burden of proof.

There is no links i said contact yourself these persons yourself. Certified Fish Pathologist, Anatomic Pathology Prof who specializes in tropicals Aquat Anim Health or the FFA. Google it yourself and make the calls or write the emails. I dont think for a moment your intentions are ill willed they are just misguided imo.

I am misguided? You are presenting information as cold, hard, FACT. Why do I have to do YOUR homework in proving those claims right or wrong? You are making the claims, therefore it is your responsibility to back them up. I shouldn't have to do the leg work.

Who are you? Last i checked your name wasnt Lupin. (ignores)
