Oooo... Sorry to hear that. :(

Ya I don't think he was very healthy, he didn't burrow into my sand 1 time, is that normal?

^^ actually, yes and no. Some will develope that, others won't. My didn't for months, then one day I woke up thinking he had escaped somehow, until I saw his head sticking out of the sand... Just lounging.

wierd, i think im gonna go get my money back and then ill wait till i find a really healthy one to buy again

next time you use salt use about 1 tsp per 10 gallons of water as a general tonic and 1 tsp per 5 gallons as a treatment for stuff such as ich or whatnot!

May have been starvation coupled with stress... frozen Bloodworms are small enough for specimens of that size, but even trout worms may be too large... TONS and TONS of sand is best for this species, it is happiest when you never see it, they love living in the sand, poking their heads out like garden eels, waiting for food.

Bonus: dropping in the bloodworms make the eel IMMEDIATELY leave the sand and go NUTS!

What kind of cichlids were you housing it with? I have Juruparis and they leave my peacock alone.

they are convicts, firemouths and severums
today i got a new peacock eel, and he is wayyyy fatter and like 9 inches
still getting beat up a bit but he is trying to eat my cons babies so thats why

I had a striped peacock eel similar in size to yours.... It lingered for about 5 months. I saw it eat ONCE the whole time. It almost never buried itself. It would hang out under the plants. It died about a month ago. My advice is to buy the BIGGEST BEEFIEST peacock they have at the store. I went in and picked up a new eel after my old one passed on. Its about 7" long now (about 1" longer since last month) and about as big around as a quarter (maybe a little bigger....he's always buried under the sand). I feed mine red wigglers that I cut into thirds. I bought a long pincher/plant pruner to feed him. I just put the worm in the claw and drop it down to his face. I feed him everytime I see his face poking out of the sand. I went about 4 or 5 days this week without knowing where he was. I poked around for a minute and found him last night and dropped in worm bits. I saw him swimming around afterwards and there were no worms or beefheart (I fed frozen beefheart to the other fish last night. Some was left over on the bottom) in the tank this morning. Good luck if you pick another up!
