Do you guys have a salt mix preference? I have been told to use different mixes by different people and I'm just wondering if it really matters? I was going to buy instant ocean... Then someone told me it wasnt good? lol I dont get it. Whats not good about it?

instant ocean i not a bad salt but ive noticed some fluctuation in elements with different batchs. others have had this problem also. u just need to check it.

i like red sea coral pro salt, dd salt, brightwell. so many choices its hard to say what is the best.

i have a large box of instant ocean reef salt i plan to use on my 125.

You shouldn't have any problems with IO with pretty much anything but the touchiest of SPS. Good value imo. Some of the "better" salts can get quite pricey.

Really? I have never measured mag, but my calcium has always stayed at healthy levels with IO:reef crystals.

Regular IO is supposed to have higher calcium than the RC stuff too.

I use and like IO...but that is mainly because of how cheap it is here in wisconsin because of fosters and smith.

Never had any problems with IO..be sure to let the mixture aerate for 24 hours after you mix it

ive measured 2 batchs of reef crystals. both had calcium under 400 and mag was about 1100.

ive never used regular i/o .

the red sea coral pro has higher levels of both. about 420cal and 1250 mag. but phosphate levels are a little higher. i still dont know why salt mixes have any phosphate in them.

Probably because one of the chemicals they put in for something good comes with phosphates...and its just cheaper to use that than the other stuff...or the separation process just isnt worth it to them.

I let my SW mix overnight...I had some sort of weird white slime once when I let it go for 36 hours...only 24 with salt in the water though.

Now I just mix it first thing before I go to bed, and then the next morning I do my h2o change.
