look at it this way
%100 pure water evaporates out of our tanks every day. We add new water to top off and relplace the evaporation. If there are any contaminants in that top off water, it will continually be added and concentrated as %100 pure water evaporates off and new top off water WITH whatever contaminants is added. Do that math on that, excesses of things we do not want in our water inevitable WILL accumulate in the tank if they are present in our top off/make up water.

Its hard to back off when such erroneous information is getting posted. I now understand why you think nitrates are caused by crushed coral.

If you CHANGED your water and did gravel vacs rather than just top off evaporative water loss there would be no accumulation and no nitrate problems. Basic tank maintenance avoids both problems. Both problems would only affect some one who is not performing basic tank maintenance tasks.

Your cyano problem is about as related to the 61 tds of the pet store water you bought as I am. Check your levels of PO4, I and Ca+. Betcha the Ca+ and I are low relative to the PO4.

Which means given certain situations, RO water is not needed. If you don't have to blow money on an RO system when you can use tap, why are you trying to sell this guy on it? Are you making money? Be quiet.

also cyano is about gone now. i still blame it on the 61 tds seeing i am now using RODI water with 0tds and its littery about gone.

RO/DI is very helpful. if you dont want it, dont buy one its that simple. im happy with mine, and im glad you guys love tap water.

i figured i'd suggest one for stud muffin because on alother forum im on highly recomends RO/DI water (these people are all reef keepers) not a freshwater site with a small section for marine tanks.

but anyways this is over for me. had alot of fun but typically when i argue with females after i usually......... oh never mind thats of topic

RO/DI is helpful, but not needed like you stated. No one is saying don't use RO we are saying its not always needed and you pursued to argue. Go have fun with your 29 gallon. I'll be busy working on my 10x5 shark lagoon!

ok so you paid for a larg tank. cool
if your large tank is anything like 'ashlee's buy some rock for some good natural filteration and get rid of the HOB filters.

i like nano and picco tanks which are a competly diffrent intrest group. comparing a large tank to a small tank is like comparing sports cars to large trucks. nothing alike other then they drive on the road

i like nano and picco because they are much more challangeing to keep.

maybe a 10X5 shallow comunity reef......that would be impressive

10x5 doesnt seem large enough for sharks, and hope you dont feed them as much as your green moray......may have some problems.......
i thought sharks need 1500+ gallons?
