Salt water fish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FW filters used on SW tanks are nitrate factories. Live rock, sand, powerheads for flow & a good skimmer is all you need.

There are NO DIFFERENCES between fresh and saltwater mechanical filters outside of a pt skimmer. As long as they are cleaned right, you'll be fine.

I can use my same fillters but will have to buy new cartarges. I can use the same heater. I can get sand from the beach right and I can use the lights that.I already have. All I would have to buy is salt mix the hydro meter and rock. How much does that suff cost.

Sand from the beach is not only asking for problems biologically, it's also illegal in FL.

i only want stuff that i can catch myself

In FL, you need a permit to take fish (other than lions, which fall under invasives as you well know). It's pretty cheap and easy to apply for the permit.

they are so bad right now when i when diving two days ago i killed like 12 the biggest was like 3lbs. you have to kill everyone you see.

You don't HAVE to kill everyone you see. I see them all the time in Biscayne Bay. Only pulled in five of them.

ive talk to many fwc people and my dad is a park ranger at beach and everything i have heard says kill them all. thank you for all the advice i did not know it was illegal to get sand and that you needed a permit to get fish. i still dont know if i am going to make it salt or stay with fresh

Catching your own lion for a tank would be BA. I wish that we could switch the collection industry over to the atlantic, that would help the problem.
