Saltwater vs Freshwater fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure if anybody mentioned this, but another difference is marine fish are more territorial. So, you will probably be keeping less fish in a salt tank then you will be in a freshwater tank. Just found this out because I started my first salt tank recently (10 gallons). Of course you can't really keep much in 10 gals regardless, but it is still less then freshwater.

So which and how many fish do you have in that ten gallon?

Currently just a yellow watchmen goby, with a pistol shrimp. Also a peppermint shrimp and some hermit crabs and snails.

I generally find freshwater fish to be more interesting, if less colourful than saltwater fish. It seems like most of the really interesting saltwater fish are also either very difficult to keep or extremely rare/expensive(sea dragon anyone?).

There are some really awesome saltwater crustaceans however, like the mantis shrimp. Truly magnificent little buggers.

I'm biased. You should do what you want. I've tried it twice. Once the wrong way and once the right way. Hated both times I tried. You'll never know until you try so I say go for salt.
