Salvini color

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
could be stressed....or maybe you just need some dark colored gravel/and or background. I have black background on both my cichlid tanks and it makes a huge difference. give it a try and he might color right back up

cichniss Ill try some of the things you said and just caught some Earthworms today so ill wait a day or to until they expell all the waste. I use Omega One med cichlid pellets and tetra cichlid sticks.
scottgeeze readings are ammo 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate 10ppm-20ppm
JeffLeMay I have black gravel but no back ground. Ill see about that though may or may not do it because I have no money atm.

Just buy black cardboard at a craft store and put it on the back of the tank. I think it looks fantastic because it's not shiney and such.

Bullying could be a culperate also bad water quality, diet, maybe was in breeding colors ( Though even when not they are still amazingly stunning). I have never seen a drab Salvini. Maybe it's weak gene's for color and can't produce. It is probably stress..

I have to agree with Cross127 here. I've never seen a drab Salvini either tho I have seen them washed out. Pics of the fish AND your tank set up would really help. Does it have enough hiding spots to get away when it needs to? Seeing your water params ruled that out IMO. What is your water change schedule? Do you use ferts or other chemicals for plants or something.

Seems we're missing something here

w/c every week 30-40%, yes enough hiding spots and I have plastic plants and was and still am using melfix maybe that is what is stressing it.

In my experience, salvinis colors wash out when they are stressed (when they are added to a new tank, etc.) Reading the stocklist in your signature I think that all of the other large fish in your aquarium could very well be stressing your sal out.
