Salvini color

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its been a few days siince starting this thread so how's the sal doin?

Coloring up at all yet? Have you made any changes to the set up?

Well I have a dark blue background now and stop the medicine because I don't need to use it anymore, but the sal is now stressed out because I did some fish rearranging. It is doing fine from what I see but it hides a lot. I removed the jd from the other side of the divider and put it in with the sal and moved the O to the side the JD was. I did this because the biggest sal 2 days ago began to show too much aggression towards the O and the O was getting too stress breathing hard and lifeless at the top of the tank. Also, on that day I found one of my silver dollar dead so the other 2 are now in a 29 gal. So now the JD chases both the sal but it seems the chasing has gone down. Not much for me to do with only 2 tanks and both being occupied. So long story short yes the coloring are still dull.

is it a male salvini?
mine used to look very plain when just chilling.
give it nls for mega red colors.

Salvinis are at the best when displaying their breeding colours, which could have been the case when you bought him. They do, however, change colour according to what mood they are in. He could now be displaying his 'war' colouring, which may change when he is more settled.

Something many people don't know about Salvinis can be traced back to their original collection in the wild, and which bloodlines they have been mixed with until arriving in your tank.......... there are two main types of collection in the wild - from rivers / streams and from lagoons. For some reason the lagoon caught Sals have much more vibrant colouring than their river cousins. In captivity how vibrant they are can depend on what their parents / grandparents etc. have bred with. So sometimes it can be just down to dumb luck.

I have also found if you match them with an equally abled adversary, such as a JD of the same size, that can bring them out too
