That male sal that you had was amazing. He had the best traits of the riverine variants and the lagoon variants. He reminded me of a cross between the "blue blaze" type and the lagoon type "super red" sals. I have not seen one of those in years.

The blue variant sals with the dark red from the tabasco lagoons I haven't seen in ages, just that one pair and the few generations of offspring that were for sale years back on Mo's forum that were hand collected from Laguna de la Ilusiones. There are some really and yellow ones (probably from Rio Candelaria stock) that show up once in a while at one of my LFS, but they're usually very pricey. They're beautiful though, the females have solid red not only on the ventral surface, but also a reddish hue on the lower dorsal surface as well. My male came from 2 different parents - a really bright yellow male with solid black markings, but almost no blue or red on the body. The female was bright yellow with a ton of red. I'm once again looking for some fish from Laguna de las Ilusiones, but it looks like the situation is still the same - I'd have to go to Mexico to collect them myself, and I'm just not into the hobby enough anymore to do it.
