Two weeks ago I picked up a little male to see if I could manage to form a pair with the female already in the tank. Currently he is about 3 inches and she looks to be about 2.5". She was the dominant fish in the tank and chased him relentlessly at first. Now she seems to be tolerating him - they swim together at times and they are starting to move gravel around. Hopefully good things happen in the near future.

I picked this male because of his long dorsal fin and how much color he was already showing.

1st pic: Two weeks ago
2nd & 3rd: Today (he practically doubled in size in two weeks)
4th & 5th: Hopefully a happy pair

Just thought I would share

Nice looking fish. I used to have a pretty mean Female Salvini. She used to go after a Tri-Mac twice her size.

great looking fish

Beautiful pair! I haven't seen salvini that yellow in years. Most of the time it seems the yellow has been breed out of them.

Beautiful salvini's ...nice

Tonight they don't seem to be as aggressive towards each other (gill flaring, etc.) and they are tag teaming other fish in the tank. I never had cichlids breed in my tank before, but from what I've read and seen here (MFK), something might be in the works.

Is it normal for a pair to still face off like they are going to lock lips and sometimes they will get real stiff next to each other and shake their bodies?
